The herbs and the medium in which they are delivered are tailored to you and targeted towards either the easing of symptoms or as a general health maintenance procedure. It is said in Ayurveda that Basti therapy can remove up to 50% of a disease.

Similar to an enema or colonic an Ayurvedic basti is a more holistic therapy. The emotional, physical and mental health of the person is assessed, and a three-stage approach is taken making this a safe and helpful practice for restoring or maintaining health. The preparatory phase prepares the body to release stored up toxicity, the therapy itself allows for a cleanse of the colon removing fermenting materials and releasing the Ayurvedic biological energy known as Vata. Vata is responsible for many ailments and has its main seat in the colon where it can cause issues like bloating. The cleaned area allows for cellular uptake of the rejuvenating herbs used in the cleansing liquid. Moving through the gut mucosa into the blood stream the benefits of the herbs can be easily taken up by the tissues of the body allowing for cellular rejuvenation. It is this final aspect that makes Basti different to Colonics and Enema. The post phase of the therapy ensures the reintroduction to healthful foods that fully support the long-term benefits of the therapy.
For health maintenance a basti is recommended by Ayurveda during Spring and Autumn on the junction of the seasons. To address specific ailments more frequency many be require and will be discussed at the initial consultation for which a tailored discount programme can be established.
The procedure is a blend of traditional Ayurvedic colon cleanse/rejuvenation therapy and modern colonic hydrotherapy.
Prior to Therapy Day
Preparation
You follow a simple, specific diet for a few days prior to the therapy, details will be provided. This helps prepare your body and digestive system.
Consultation:
You start with a comprehensive assessment of your digestive health and biological energy balance, known as "doshas" in Ayurveda. This includes discussing your medical history and any current health concerns. Based on this consultation, the best herbal formulation tailored to your individual needs is selected. This is done by zoom and followed up on the day.
The therapy begins with the gentle insertion of a disposable speculum into the rectum. Warm, medicated oils are used to massage the belly and sometimes the feet, promoting relaxation and preparing the body for the treatment. A soothing mixture of filtered temperature controlled water infused with herbs is then administered into the colon via the rectum, at low pressure. This mixture is held in the colon until the natural urge to eliminate arises. This helps release stored waste, gas, mucus, and toxins and morbid disease forming excess doshas.
An after-care package is provided, which includes food for the first two meals post-therapy. These meals are designed to be gentle on the gut. Herbal supplementation suggestions are also given to support ongoing rejuvenation and digestive health. The aftercare package ensures that the therapy has long term benefits.

Having had issues post menopause I found them to go completely on having a basti alongside diet changes. The speed with which this procedure changed things was remarkable. I also saw friends have this therapy with very good results. Convinced of the benefits and knowing that results could be seen quicker than relying on diet and lifestyle alone, persuaded me to train in this ancient protocol. Increasing the medical establishment have come to recognise the importance of looking after our gut, microbiome and gastrointestinal tract, something the ancients including the age-old medicine of Ayurveda had known for centuries.
One client's experince of the Basti Colon Cleanse and Rejuvenate therapy
Do I need to book a series of colonics? No need to commit right away! We start with a full consultation to see what works best for you. Some people feel great after just one session, while others might benefit from a few more if we are working on a particular issue. I’ll guide you on what’s right for you, and if something else might work better, I’ll happily suggest that or refer you to a trusted colleague.
What happens during the consultation? We’ll chat about your medical history, and I’ll also use Ayurvedic pulse and tongue diagnosis to get a full picture of your health. We’ll go over your diet and lifestyle, and I’ll walk you through the treatment, answering any questions you might have.
Does it hurt? Not at all! Ayurvedic Colon cleanse and Rejuvenation therapies are meant to be gentle. While you might feel a little discomfort when releasing trapped gas, the process is designed to be as comfortable as possible. We’ll go at your pace and make sure you’re relaxed throughout.
What does it feel like? During the treatment, you might feel a sense of fullness followed by a nice release. Sometimes, it feels a bit like trapped gas, but that’s quickly relieved with some gentle pressure and a soothing massage on your tummy.
How is my modesty protected? We’ve got you covered—literally! You’ll get a comfy gown to wear after changing in the bathroom. Once you’re on the couch, you’ll be draped with two large towels for extra comfort. We’ll walk you through the process before we start, and you’ll always be in the loop, with nothing happening without your consent.
How long does it take? Your first session will be about 90 minutes, including a consultation and the treatment itself. The actual procedure usually takes 35-45 minutes. For follow-up sessions, plan for about an hour.
Is there any smell? Generally not, though with elimination you may notice an aroma from the herbs being release.
Can I see what’s being removed? Not this time—this process is a little different from traditional colonics..
Are there any contraindications? This therapy is not suitable for everyone. Some cases where it’s contraindicated include:
Can I have a colonic if I’m pregnant? No, colonics aren’t recommended during pregnancy.
How soon after childbirth can I have a colonic? Typically, you can have a colonic 2-3 months after a normal childbirth. If you had complications or a C-section, it’s best to wait until you’ve fully recovered. Always check with your doctor or healthcare professional if you’re unsure.
I’m over 70 years old—can I still have colonic irrigation? This depends on your overall health and strength. It’s a good idea to reach out and discuss your specific situation before booking.
How can a colonic benefit me if I don’t have bowel problems? Even if your bowels are regular, a colonic can be a fantastic cleanse. Many people without bowel issues are surprised by how much better they feel afterward. This treatment can remove more waste than you’d expect, boosting your overall health. Many clients, including myself, schedule colonics twice a year, typically at the change of seasons, to support metabolic and immune health.
Can I have a colonic during menstruation? Yes, you can but it is preferable at the end of your period and when the flow is lightest.
Can I eat before a colonic? It’s best to have a light meal no later than two to three hours before the therapy. This keeps things comfortable during the session.
Is there anything I need to do beforehand? Yes, we’ll provide a pre-care suggestion sheet with tips on the best foods and drinks for your Dosha type as well as helpful pre-prepared meals to aid your gut and save you time and stress.
Are there any dangers? As long as your therapist is well-trained, hygienic, and fully insured, colonic therapy is safe. If you’re unsure about anything, it’s always best to ask questions and make sure you’re comfortable before booking.
